Student Exchange Programme - European School of The Hague

An exchange programme in a different country gives students the chance to develop more intensively in many regards, e.g., to improve their language skills and to mature through experiencing a different educational and cultural environment.

European Schools and Accredited European Schools offer the possibility of hosting other pupils as well as supporting their pupils to visit other schools. Both can take place as one-to-one exchange mobilities, or, in some exceptional cases, as one-way mobilities.

The Student Exchange Programme takes place during the first semester of S5 (finishing the last school day before the Christmas holidays). However, if there are justified reasons, it can also occur during the first semester of S4 or a shorter exchange of two months in S4.

Once you have received confirmation of placement in a school, they will let you know how to go about finding a host family – usually through contacting the host school’s APEE (Parents Association)
If a host family is found, make contact and decide on dates for the exchange. Inform ESH via exchanges@eshthehague.nl. Also inform the host school, as some schools set dates for you.
Start completing the required paperwork. Annexes 1-4 can be found in the "Documents" drop-down above.
Communicate with host school and host family about practicalities, such as books, subject choices, transport between school and host family, and/or lunch. If necessary, make arrangements with the host school's canteen. Some schools require you to sign for additional items such as permission to leave, use of a locker, etc.
