Student Council
Each mentor class elects a Class Representative to join the Student Council. Student Council meetings are chaired by the Student Representatives, and supervised by a teacher.
Being a Student Representative is an important role in the school. Student Reps sit on the Secondary Participation Council, to make sure the ideas and concerns of the students are heard by school management. In order to fulfil this responsibility, they also meet frequently with Class Representatives, who share with them any feedback, ideas or concerns of their peers. The role also presents students with a wide range of new opportunities and experiences, and helps them develop leadership skills that they can build on in their future careers. Student Reps are elected by their peers.
Student Mentor Programme
The Student Mentor programme gives S5 students the opportunity to become Student Mentors for our new S1 students. The programme not only forms an important part of the transition programme for new Secondary students, it provides our older students with opportunities to complete acts of service and develop their leadership skills. The relationships developed between the students and their Student Mentor has the possibility of extending long-term to ensure strong social relationships within the student body.
Institutional Simulation Conferences
Each year, ESH has betwen 80-100 students from S3-S7 participate in in one or more conferences that either represent diplomatic simulations or legal simulations. The diplomatic simulations include the various Model United Nations (MUN) and Model European Council (MEC), while the legal simulations include the Moot Court.
Student Initiatives
Under the guidance of the Student Council, students are invited to show their interest in forming new student committees, such a social, environmental or fundraising committees. For example, students can participate in the student-run newspaper, The Nest, or support transforming the sustainability of the school environment through our ESH Green Club.

As educators at ESH, we have a valuable opportunity to help students develop and exercise leadership in a responsible manner. Therefore ESH plays a role in helping students, who are members of the school council, to develop their leadership skills in order to reach their full potential as future leaders.
P5 Student Council
Each P5 class elects a class representative who make up the Student Council. All P5 children may be elected and put themselves forward as a potential candidate. Candidates put together a short presentation about why they wanted to be part of the council and why they would be a good representative. The presentations are delivered to their classes before being voted by their classmates.

Cleaner Playground
Goal: reduce the amount of litter after snack time.
Proposed plan on how to achieve this:
- Make short videos in multiple languages and show to the classes
- Ask the classes for suggestions and ideas on how to improve the situation
- Ask the Facilities Team to provide more bins outside
- Hold an art competition to design posters to “KEEP OUR PLAYGROUND TIDY”
- Put the colourful posters on the outside bins to draw attention to them – this wo
- uld encourage each other to feel responsible to keep the playground tidy.
We have already noticed that with the attention on this the litter situation in the playground and field was improving so we are very proud of the children in the school for taking notice and making this happen.
Greener Canteen
Playground Buddies
Goal: Help others during playtime
A “Playground Buddies” scheme that can involve any child from P3 - P5.
Playground buddies will be children who volunteer for this role, and will receive training and support. The goal is to help other children during snack and play times who might experience difficulties with other children or whom perhaps need some company.
Eco Planet Team (P4 Pupils)
The Eco-team is in the driver seat of the process toward becoming a sustainable school. Within the Eco-Schools programme, the approach is ‘student-led change’, where the students are in the lead to make the difference. In seven steps the Eco-team will lead the school to the award: The Green Flag. The Eco Planet Team is made up of P4 children.
The children have named their team the "Eco Planet Team" and use the motto:
'The future is in our hands'.
