Physical Education
ESH primary has four appointed specialist teachers to teach PE lessons for Early Years and Primary classes. From the start, the emphasis is on practising motor skills and developing basic techniques for different sports. In physical education it is also important for children to enjoy movement. In addition, attention is paid to social skills, such as consideration for others, cooperation, attention to safety and sportsmanship.
Pupils receive two PE lessons a week. The school has a well-equipped gymnasium and, weather permitting, classes are also held outdoors on the sports fields. Swimming is part of the PE curriculum for P2. Pupils will be taken to and from the swimming pool by bus. Information will be communicated to parents via the Swimming Coordinator at the beginning of the school year.
At ESH, Physical Education is focused on helping students to become competent in a number of areas: being independent, being responsible and enjoy regular participation with perspective in the culture of movement. These areas of focus are important to build and maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.
To build a broad 'repertoire of movement ', children learn to participate in a wide range of exercises during physical education lessons. This repertoire includes motor skills as well as socio-emotional skills.
We aim to:
• Provide a productive and challenging learning experience
• Empower students in motor- emotional and social skills
• Integrate new sports into our learning subjects
• Introduce children to a wide range of sports, to encourage them to make a responsible sports choice
• Use sports activities to become independent and responsible learners
ESH encourages participation in the local tournaments for Dutch Primary schools as an opportunity for introduction and integration with Dutch sport clubs, friendly competition and team bonding. Depending on the offered tournament, Primary 2 to Primary 5 classes can participate.
Here is a list of the inter-school tournaments in which we participate each year:
- Handball (P3-5)
- Football (P5)
- Table Tennis (P3-5)
- Basketball (P5)
- Cricket (P4-5)

Music
Music
An important goal of music lessons is that pupils are given the opportunity to enjoy various aspects of music. The social and cultural dimension plays an important role as do different musical styles. During the music lessons, taught by a specialist subject teacher, attention is paid to the development of musical skills, including making, listening to and composing music.
Here our music teacher hosts an orchestra for a Christmas concert for ESH pupils and brings children to sing at an elderly home.
